For a long time, Highway 97 was the only major highway to Kelowna. However in 1986, after the opening of the new Coquihalla Highway 5, two hours of travel time between Vancouver and the Okanagan was eliminated. The public transit in Kelowna is the Kelowna Regional Transit System, servicing the Central Okanagan District, Kelowna, Lake Country, West Kelowna, Westbank First Nation and Peachland. Kelowna International Airport is one of the busiest airports in Canada with regular flights to Calgary, Edmonton, Toronto, and Vancouver.
